Understanding background check requirements for medical marijuana employees in Oklahoma
Will I Have to Go through a Background Check to Be a Medical Marijuana Employee in Oklahoma?
Will background checks be required to be a medical marijuana business employee? I’m Oklahoma medical marijuana business lawyer Ope Adegbuyi. Third-party vendors shall on behalf of the OMMA conduct background checks and verify eligibility and sustainability of any employee of a medical marijuana business license holder to obtain a credential.
So in my last video, I had talked about the credentials that all medical marijuana business employees would need. So beginning in 2024, every employee would need to have that credential. And before you can get that credential, the third party would have to do a background check on you and verify that you’ll be able to get that credential.
What Does This Mean for Medical Marijuana Employees?
For individuals looking to work in the medical marijuana industry in Oklahoma, it means that undergoing a background check will be a necessary step in obtaining the required credential. This background check will be conducted by a third-party vendor authorized by the OMMA.
The purpose of the background check is to ensure that employees are eligible and sustainable to work in a medical marijuana business. It will verify that individuals meet the necessary criteria and do not have any disqualifying factors that would prevent them from obtaining the required credential.
Continued Education for Dispensary Employees
Additionally, starting in 2025, dispensary employees will need to engage in continued education related to the credential they already possess. This means that employees will need to stay up to date with the latest advancements and knowledge in the medical marijuana field to maintain their credential.
By participating in continued education programs, dispensary employees can ensure they are providing the best possible service to patients and staying informed about the latest developments in medical marijuana.
